Are you satisfied with your car insurance price?

You're at this year's annual work barbeque and your co-worker starts talking about how he got a really great auto insurance price this past weekend. A friend of a friend told him about an auto insurance company that was really good, so he didn't even have to spend time shopping around. Suddenly, you're wondering if you have the best car insurance price that you could have. Why is it that everyone else seems to always get a better deal on their car insurance prices! The answer is to shop around for your auto insurance.

Auto insurance prices can vary widely from one company to the next.

There are a number of factors that insurance companies consider when it comes to auto insurance prices. It is a combination of these factors that can either cause your rate to be higher or lower than your neighbour's or co-worker's. Moreover, they can also vary according to your needs for coverage. This is why auto insurance prices vary widely and why auto insurance is not a one-size-fits-all business.

Your auto insurance price is determined by some or more of the following:

Male/Female? If you are male, your auto insurance price will most likely be higher than it is for a comparable woman. This is because statistics show that men are more prone to drive aggressively, and so men are thus seen as a higher risk by insurance companies.

Age is not, in fact, just a number. With age comes 'wisdom and maturity,' and also the experience of driving overall, as well as in different conditions, situations etc. The younger you are (under 25), the higher your auto insurance price will be, because less experienced drivers are considered to be more prone to accidents by auto insurance companies, and therefore seen as a higher risk.

Single/Married. Unless you hear wedding bells in the near future, your premium will likely be higher than if you were married. A marriage relationship tends to show a certain sense of commitment, responsibility, seriousness, and stability in one's life. Auto insurance providers therefore see singles as a higher risk and married folks as less risky to insure. Getting married simply to get a better car insurance price is not really a good strategy though.

Your Driving Record. This includes a history of your years of experience, and it's also where the truth comes out. Moving violations, accidents, speeding tickets, driving while under the influence, etc., are big factors in whether you get a lower or higher auto insurance price. The more incidents you have, the higher your auto insurance price will be. As if you need another reason to drive a little bit safer.

Vehicle Use. If you are just using the car on weekends, for errands, or picking up the kids from soccer practice, but otherwise do not drive to/from work, then your car insurance price will tend to be lower. If you use your car every day to commute to work in bumper to bumper traffic, your car insurance price will be higher because the amount of use your vehicle receives, increases your risk of accident, especially during rush hour and on the highway.

Vehicle Type. Certain aspects of your car also affect your auto insurance price. These aspects can include: cost, value, age, average costs for parts and for repair, size and weight of the car etc, etc. The more costly the car, the more costly it will likely be to insure, and also to repair. The value of your car depreciates quickly along with its increasing age. If parts are scarce, car insurance prices will surely rise to reflect this. Large vehicles seem to be able to withstand collision and protect its riders more so than smaller cars. It is also a myth that the colour of one's car causes overall car insurance prices to be higher.

Where You Park. Where you park or keep your car make a difference because it leaves your vehicle more or less vulnerable or open to theft, damage, or vandalism. If you keep it in a garage or in an open parking lot, or in the suburbs or a busy city area or lot, the risk is relatively lower or higher, again, depending on the risk exposed to your car. Where you park will almost certainly factor into your car insurance price.

The Reality of Car Insurance Prices

Let's face it. If you are an under 25, single male driver, with a daily used, expensive car, the odds are stacked against getting a low car insurance price. If you are an older married female driver with no previous incidents, you are likely going to pay a more attractive auto insurance price. Whichever case you're in and whatever factors rate higher or lower to affect your auto insurance prices, there's no reason that you should not also be a savvy consumer. Save where you can! Some insurance companies are more lenient on some of these factors, and some are harsher on others.
