Can I insure my bike even if I don't have a license to ride it?

Can I get motorcycle insurance for a bike if I do not have a licence?

We referred your question to Sean Graham, Principle Broker at KTX Insurance Brokers, and he let us know that to have a motorcycle insured in Ontario you must have someone listed on the policy as a primary rider of the vehicle who has a valid motorcycle licence.

You also must insure the bike for liability. The option to insure it for specified perils insurance (fire, theft) alone is not available. If you have a friend or relative who has a valid motorcycle licence you could add them on as a driver on the policy. The policy would still be in your name because you are the owner of the bike; however at no time will you be covered to drive the motorcycle because you do not have a licence. Only the listed driver would be covered to drive.
