Am I permitted to purchase auto insurance on a vehicle which I don't own?
Posted by Guest on 2009/06/08 15:11:28 Reply We referred your question to Sean Graham, Principle Broker at KTX Insurance Brokers, and the following was his reply: No. Auto insurance policies must be purchased by and listed under the registered owner of the vehicle. However, the primary driver of the car does not need to be the person who owns it. In fact, it's possible to have a policy where the person who owns the vehicle isn't even listed as a driver (typically because they are not able, or allowed, to drive it because they do not have a valid licence). In cases like these, the auto insurance policy will be rated based on the person who is actually driving the vehicle, even if they do not own it.
