Would a homemade ice rink in my backyard be covered under my home insurance policy?

I create an ice rink in my backyard every winter for my kids and their friends. I've been told that I should have insurance specifically for this in case something happens. I don't feel like I do. Isn't this something that would be covered under my home insurance? It's on my property, and only people I know and personally invite are allowed on the property. Please let me know. I'm curious as to the best way to proceed.

If you build an ice rink in your backyard, any liability associated with it is generally covered under your liability coverage on your homeowners insurance policy. However, if you somehow turn the rink into a commercial venture, as in you start charging visitors money, this would not be covered.

Insurance companies might not be keen on the idea of a bunch of people in your backyard skating on ice, but most liability claims would be covered under a comprehensive home insurance policy without adding any additional coverage.

What if we do a charity event using the rink? Would that still be covered as well, as it's not-for-profit?

No, this would likely not be covered since this would not be considered personal use. Even though it is not for profit, this would fall under business use. This would require some type of Commercial General Liability coverage.
