| If your tree damages someone else's property, who's home insurance covers the damage? | |
| If during a storm, a tree damages someone else's property who's home insurance would cover the cost of the damages; the owner of the tree's policy? Or the person's whose property was damaged? Posted by Guest on 2009/12/14 09:41:32 In this case it would be either/or. The person whose property is damaged by the tree may claim it under their own home insurance policy subject to their deductible. Conversely, the owner of the tree may claim for the damage under the "Voluntary Property Damage" section of their homeowners policy. Under this coverage the tree owner would voluntarily compensate their neighbour for the damage caused by the falling tree. There is a limit to how much this coverage pays, typically it would cover $1000 or so.
