I'm building a sail boat. How do I go about insuring it? -Dale, Newmarket ON

The easiest way to insure your boat is to go through your home insurance. Depending on its size, you would most likely need an inspection and an appraisal for the boat before your home insurance company would consider taking on the risk.

Another option would be to contact a local broker who specializes in marine insurance. With homemade boats of any type, they would also require a certified marine inspection of the vessel to qualify the risk.
