Hi, My name is X and I am coming to Canada for school from Brazil. Should I purchase travel insurance or health insurance for my stay? Thank you for your help!

It's a good idea, otherwise you may find yourself out of pocket if you are ill or injured.

We found on the website for Citizenship and Immigration Canada the following frequently asked question:

"If I get sick or have an accident while I am visiting Canada, will the Government of Canada pay for my medical treatment?"

The answer:

"Canada does not pay for hospital or medical services for visitors. Make sure you have health insurance to cover any medical costs before you come to Canada."
