What do you think about the cell phone ban in Ontario

What do you think about laws banning the use of cell phones while driving? Are they effective or are drivers ignoring them? In Ontario, more than 49,000 drivers have received a ticket for breaking this law and as a result their car insurance could go up.

I don't like it. I don't see the benefit with this law and it's more than likely another cash grab by the government. Has it made our roads safer? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure if you look into accident rates - from last year until now - there will be little to no difference!

I think it's a good idea. Drivers should pay attention to only one thing while they are driving and that's the roads. Anything else is a distraction. This is a good law to keep our roads safer.

Ban their use while a vehicle is in motion, except under exceptional/emergency situations.

I see drivers all the time who ignore the current prohibition. Put some teeth into the penalty -- fine abusers and confiscate their phone for a period of time.

I agree with the ban. It is dangerous to be talking on a cell phone while driving.

It is what it is - it's the law and everyone should abide by it.

Cell phone should be banned !!

The decision was based on flawed data. People will continue to talk and drive. There are times when its safe to do both.

me thinks vehicle insurance is too high and insurance companies
[and related] are staffed by extra smart employees and owners.

distactions like texting distract a driver's focused attention.

the fines could be for lesser amounts. the increase in premiums

could be increased to $10,000 for one year, if convicted. that
would result in excessive profits and my personal premium should
then be one quareter of what it is.

next - make all insurance a federal responsibility. like health
care is supposed to be - use income taxes to collect all premiums.

no Canadian would be without basic minimum realistic protection,
for contents, homes, vehicles and death. all payments could be

treated as taxable income at rates determined on net income,
with poor folks paying nothing.

fresh, slow learners in institutions and jails could work for a
federal insurance agency while millions employed in a current
non productive, insurance industry could find meaningful jobs.

The laws are good regarding ban on cell phone use while operating a vehicle, how ever they are much abused and disregarded by the public.

The cell phone ban while driving is totally unneccessary; there are drivers who can handle it and drivers who cannot, and the laws before the ban took care of the drivers that couldn't, by charging them with careless driving.
This is strictly a cash grab, both by the government and by the insurance companies.

Every time I saw a vehicle sway and crossing marked lines on the road, I found the driver was talking on a cellphone. Also saw a near missed accident of driver making a right turn while yapping on the phone from a supermarket parking lot to the main road, the driver traveling along the main road was quick to respond and changed to fast lane to avoid that accident. Luckily there weren't any car on fast lane, and if that driver responded one second late, ...........

Definitely this is the best decision as driving while talking on mobile phone is completely wrong.
