As a tourist in Canada your options are limited when it comes to purchasing a vehicle and trying to obtain insurance for it. Insurance companies in Canada provide insurance to vehicles that are registered provincially. The driver must also be licensed in Canada. If you are able to register the vehicle and obtain insurance you will incur cancellation penalties if you are insuring a vehicle for only a few months. Most insurance policies are one year terms and if you break the policy early there's a penalty of up to one months premium. If you do not get your license within a Canadian province you will have a hard time finding affordable insurance. To be honest, you are better off renting a vehicle. This is the normal recommendation I give to travellers to Canada. The rental company will cover the vehicle under their own insurance and you usually can use your current license to drive the rental vehicle.
