| accident in bc - on fathers insurance policy does it effect | |
| I had an single vehicle accident in bc over a year ago in bc - driving my dad's truck and hit black ice and the truck slid off the road. His insurance policy went up, but mine stayed the same with the same discount.. Will this effect me when I need to insure a vehicle in Calgary now that I've moved?
Thanks

When you had your accident in BC while driving your father's truck it occurred under his insurance policy. He was lending his truck and so was lending his insurance. The accident effected his policy because of this. When you move to Calgary you are obligated to disclose the accident you were involved in, it will also show up on your Letter of Experience you obtain from ICBC. When setting up a policy in Alberta your new insurer will likely rate you for the accident you had, meaning your rates will increase. This outcome is usually unavoidable. If this occurs you will want to provide a copy of your policy to your father's insurer, ICBC so they can stop rating him for the accident and his rates will go down.
