Disclosure Requirements

I have been driving motorcycles in the UK since I was 17 and have had 3 accidents, after returning to Canada I got my car license. When trying to find insurance I have been repeatedly been told I'm uninsurable as I've have my car license for a month, but I'm told my accidents count against me but not my driving experience.

My question is am I actually required to disclose overseas different vehicle accidents to a NS insurer?

Hi,

First of all, there are a few issues going on here and I will address them accordingly. Firstly, when applying for insurance you have to disclose your driving record, whether the experience was overseas or not. If your insurer will not give you any credit for your overseas driving experience, and are starting you off as a new driver, they should not charge an additional premium for your accidents. That is double dipping and they should not be charging you as a new driver and for your past accidents. Lastly, as a new driver in Canada you certainly are not uninsurable. Anyone telling you that is providing you false information. It is likely that your rates will be high however you can still receive a quote from the agents you are working with.
