The more you use your vehicle, the higher the risk that you'll be involved in an automobile accident. Some insurance companies will even offer lower premiums to people who don't drive as often.
To answer this question, simply enter a numerical response without commas.

To answer this question, simply enter a numerical response without commas.

Alcohol Free Discount
If you abstain from drinking alcohol, with exception to prescribed reasons or to take wine in communion or a religious service, certain companies may offer you a discount on your insurance premium.
Annual premium
The insurance premium shown is the total estimate for all vehicles and drivers. These estimates are based on the information you've entered into the Quotemaker and do not include provincial tax or service charges, if they apply.
All prices shown are 12-month (yearly) policies. This makes it easier for you to compare, however some insurance companies may only offer 6-month policies. Where this is true, the annual premium is marked with a "".
Where available, a monthly price is shown, however, this is for comparison purposes only. This monthly rate does not take into consideration the deposit that may be required by the insurer.
If your quote is a range between two amounts, then press Request a call and complete the contact information. A licensed representative will be in contact with you to go over your options.
Business hours
These are the hours that the broker, agent, or direct seller, are available to help you with your premium, start a new policy, or give you advice. M = Monday T = Tuesday W = Wednesday Th = Thursday F = Friday S = Saturday
Certain companies offer a discount on your insurance premium if you sign up for a longer contract. Would you be willing to arrange a policy for a two year term?
Certain companies provide further discounts and incentives if you are willing to be insured for a two year plan.
Claims rating
Claims satisfaction ratings are available for companies listed on Kanetix that provide quotes to Ontario residents only. This information is published by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO). Each year, FSCO releases a claims satisfaction survey that compares car insurance companies on policy price and customer service satisfaction. For more information on the survey, visit FSCO's Web site, www.ontarioinsurance.com.
Collision coverage
Collision Coverage
Collision coverage protects your vehicle if it is damaged in an accident. This coverage is optional because it's not required by law in all provinces. The cost of insuring some older vehicles for collision could be higher than the value of the vehicle itself - that's the main reason why some people choose not to purchase Collision coverage.
Have a leased or financed vehicle?
If your car is leased or financed, most leasing companies and banks require that you purchase both collision and comprehensive coverage for your vehicle. Check your financing agreements to see if this is a requirement of your contract.
Have a new car?
If your car is less than 2 years old, some insurance companies may not want to sell you an insurance policy without comprehensive and collision coverage. This is because the value of your vehicle is still fairly high and you'd stand to lose a lot of money if you did not have accident or theft coverage.
Compare quotes?
- Answer a few questions in each step of the Quotemaker.

Comprehensive Coverage
Comprehensive Coverage
Comprehensive coverage protects your car for things that are not covered by Collision coverage. This would include falling or flying objects, missiles, vandalism and theft.

Discounts
Many insurance companies offer discounts off your auto insurance rates and they can be different from company to company. This list will give you more information about each kind of discount.
Depending on your age, some companies may give you a discount on your insurance. The qualifying age may be different from provider to provider.
Some insurance companies will offer a discount if you have an approved alarm or anti-theft device installed in your vehicle.
Some companies will offer you a discount on your car insurance if you have kept your insurance record claims-free for a specified amount of time.
Some companies will offer you a discount on your car insurance if you have kept your driving record conviction-free for a specified amount of time.
If you have Drivers training certificate from a registered driver training school, some insurance companies will offer a discount. You must provide your Drivers training certificate (DTC) number to qualify.
Some companies offer a discount for being an "experienced" driver. Depending on the insurance company you may be eligible for this discount if you:
- have been licensed for a minimum period of time, usually 6 to 10 years
- have been continuously insured for the last 6 years as a primary driver
- have been ticket/conviction and claims-free for the last 6 years
- are over a minimum specified age (this will vary by company)
Certain companies may offer you a discount while you hold a learner's or graduated licence.
Some insurance companies offer a discount if the annual mileage on your vehicle is low.
How long have you been insured with your current insurance company?
If you have been with your current insurer for three or more years, you are likely already receiving a discount for your loyalty to them. As a result, some companies offer a discount on your car insurance premium that recognizes and values the loyalty you have already shown and to encourage you to shop around.
If you have both your home and automobile policy with the same insurance company, you will often receive a discount on one or both policies.
This discount applies if you have more than one vehicle insured with the same company.
If you've been insured continuously anywhere in North America for at least 15 consecutive years, some companies will offer you a discount.
To provide incentive to new clients, some insurance companies will give a discount to first time customers.
Some companies offer a discount if you purchased or leased your vehicle new, or as a demo model with less than 3,000 kilometres. This discount can range from 5-15% and usually is dependent on the date of purchase rather than the model year.
Some companies may offer you a discount based on your profession or trade.
Some insurance companies may offer a discount off your premiums depending on where you regularly park your car at home. This is because your car is less likely to be stolen or vandalized if you park in a private, residential driveway or garage.
This discount applies if you are over 65 years of age and receive no additional income, other than your pension (Ontario only).
If your commute to work is less than 5 kms, certain companies will offer a discount.
Some insurance companies offer a discount depending on the number of years employed in the same industry.
Some insurance companies offer a discount on your insurance premium if your son or daughter is attending school full-time away from home. This discount is not normally available though, if your son or daughter is using one of your vehicles while attending school out-of-town.
You may have to produce documentation to show your son's or daughter's full-time student status and enrolment in a post-secondary institution.
Some insurance companies offer a discount if all four of the tires on a vehicle are changed seasonally, so that in the winter the vehicle is equipped with tires designed specifically for driving on ice and snow.
Do I need a Letter of Experience?
One of the main factors insurers take into consideration when calculating your premium is your insurance history. Specifically, they will look for previous cancellations, accidents, claims made, and the length of time you have been insured. As a result, insurance agents or brokers may ask for verification from your previous insurer to confirm the information you have provided is correct and up-to-date. This written confirmation is known as a Letter of Experience.
The following are the more common situations when a broker or agent will require you provide a Letter of Experience. Providing this information will likely help you get the lowest rates possible.
Recently moved?
If you have recently moved provinces or moved to Canada from another country, you will likely need to provide a Letter of Experience from your insurer in your former province or country. You should be aware that experience form certain countries will not be accepted by some insurance companies. If you dont already have a letter in your possession, you will want to contact your previous broker or agent so they can assist you in getting one. Most insurance companies will need to confirm any insurance history you want to account for, and they do this through a Letter of Experience.
Commercial driving history?
If you have been insured on a company policy (referred to as a Fleet Policy), this may not show up on your personal insurance information. You may need to get a Letter of Experience from your fleet policy insurer so your new company can review the history and use that experience when calculating your premiums.
Problems or discrepancies?
If the driving history you provide is not consistent with what is recorded in your insurance history, you may be required to provide a Letter of Experience. Sometimes insurance companies make mistakes, and these mistakes could get recorded in your insurance history. If you are aware of any discrepancies that exist on your driving abstract with what has really occurred, you will require a Letter of Experience to prove your case.
Finally, almost all insurance companies and brokers will not accept Letters of Experience from brokerages. While your previous broker can assist you in getting the letter from your insurer, they cannot write the letter. The letter needs to come from the insurance company directly. If you are having trouble contacting your previous insurer for your Letter, we can help. Send us an email with the name of your previous insurance company and we will assist you in obtaining this letter by sending you in the right direction.
Do any of the family members residing in your household belong to an employer group, a trade union or an alumni or professional association?
If you or a family member residing in your household belong to an employer group, a trade union or an alumni or professional association you may be eligible for a discount on your insurance premium.
Driver Assignment
In order to provide you with an accurate quote, we require that you assign each driver to at least one vehicle.
In addition, one driver must be considered the Primary Operator of the vehicle, with a vehicle usage of 55% or more.
At the same time, a driver cannot be the primary operator for more than one vehicle, unless you are comparing quotes for two drivers and three vehicles.
Driver's Name
You can choose to leave the driver's name blank or you can enter this driver's first name or nickname.
When completing a quote for more than one driver it is often easier to keep track of each driver's information by using their first name or nickname.
During the winter months, do you install 4 winter tires on your vehicle?
Winter Tires
Some insurance companies may offer a discount if all 4 of the tires on your vehicle are changed seasonally, so that in the winter the vehicle is equipped with tires designed specifically for driving on ice and snow. Tires meeting this standard* are marked with a picture of a peaked mountain.
Please note that this does not include all-season tires. Tires marked "M + S" (or "mud and snow" tires, also known as "all-season" tires) continue to provide safe all-weather performance, but may not always be suitable for severe winter conditions including cold temperatures, snow and ice.
* In 1999 the Rubber Manufacturer's Association (RMA) and the Rubber Association of Canada (RAC) introduced a winter tire grading. These tires are specifically designed for severe snow conditions and meet snow traction performance requirements. This standard helps drivers choose a tire that will help make their winter driving safer.

No, but it is important to know all the details of your driving history when applying for your insurance. Without the Abstract, you may forget to disclose important information, and if this happens an insurance company could refuse your application for what is known as non-disclosure.

Since you've indicated that you use your vehicle to drive to work, school and/or for business purposes, you will need to indicate the name of the city where your school or workplace is located. Some insurers need the details of your daily driving habits because they use the city where you work or go to school as the primary location in determining your auto insurance premium, while others, use where you live as the primary location.

Multi-line discount
Multi-line Discount
Some companies offer a Multi-line discount on your car insurance premium if you choose to get, or currently have, a home, tenant or condo insurance with them as well. If you choose to include this discount, the companies that offer it will apply it to your auto insurance quote. You can then get a quote for your property when you confirm your auto quote.
I live in a rented unit. Why should I get property insurance?
Myth 1: Your landlords insurance will cover you in the event of an accident, theft or liability claim.
Myth 2: Your auto insurance will cover you in the event that your belongings are stolen from your car.
Property insurance protects both your belongings and your assets. A tenant policy offers protection and saves you money in the following ways:
- It covers you in the event of a fire or theft and other natural events. Have you ever calculated how much it would cost to replace your belongings? It gets expensive fast!
- It builds your insurance history and will save you money in the future if you choose to buy a home.
- It can qualify you for up to a 10% discount on your auto insurance.
- It offers liability protection in the event that someone was injured on your property or injured elsewhere by your unintentional acts, thereby protecting your assets.
- It can cover property belonging to others. For example, if your friends bicycle or guitar was stolen from your apartment while you were borrowing it.
Not Interested
While Kanetix offers quotes for some of the leading insurance companies in the country it does not cover all of them. If you have a rate through a group program or enjoy discounts from your current provider because you are a long time customer, you may not find a lower rate online through Kanetix at this time.
There could also be a number of other reasons why the quote you received is not what you expected. In most cases, it can be narrowed down to one or more of the following input errors:
- The year, make and model of the vehicle information selected is not the same as the vehicle you wish to insure;
- Deductible options have been chosen incorrectly or additional optional coverages were included on the quote inadvertently;
- The annual commute and business kilometres entered (if applicable) does not reflect your actual mileage;
- The number of drivers on the quote are not the actual number you wish to insure and/or the driver allocation is incorrect;
- Driving history information related to convictions, accidents, licence suspensions and policy cancellations was entered incorrectly;
- The licence date(s) and insurance history information that was entered is incorrect;
- Your current insurer provides you with an insurance rate that does not reflect recent changes to your profile such as additional drivers, vehicles, claims, or convictions that you entered online at Kanetix;
- You may not have selected the optional discounts (e.g. multi-line) that are available to you.
Please take a minute to review the areas listed above to ensure that everything has been entered as you intended.

Theft protection devices
Insurance companies may offer a discount if your car has a theft protection device. This is because your car is less likely to be stolen.
Check below for information about the different types of theft protection devices.
The audible alarm is usually combined with other security systems and will make a loud noise if triggered. (e.g. a vehicle fitted with an impact type alarm will be equipped with an audible system that will sound if there is contact with the vehicle).
The Boomerang and Boomerang2 are vehicle tracking systems based on wireless, cellular technology. If you have a Boomerang installed in your car, some insurance companies will give you a discount off your premiums because your car will be easier to find if it is stolen.
Electronic immobilizers disable as many as three vehicle operating systems at the same time (e.g. ignition, fuel and starter circuit). Electronic immobilizers require a special key or small electronic device to start a vehicle's engine. Many newer model vehicles are factory-equipped with immobilizers as standard equipment.
This alarm monitors the vehicle's entry points (i.e. driver and passenger doors) and also its immediate perimeter. If armed, any contact with the vehicle (a collision, someone trying to open a door or break a window) will activate an audible alarm.
Antitheft marking is the permanent engraving of an identification number on about 50 areas of your car. Being permanent, this marking is a deterrent against theft & resale of your car.
Mechanical anti-theft devices include after-market steering wheel or brake locking bars and transmission locks. Each of these devices are good visual deterrents.
Monitored security systems are also known as 'vehicle recovery' systems. They are high-tech devices, usually tracked by Global Positioning satellite (GPS).

Please provide the amount listed on a current appraisal for the vehicle. If you would also like to get physical damage coverage for a matching trailer or a trailer used specifically for transporting this vehicle, please add its value to the appraised value of the vehicle.

Insurance companies need to know the year of your vehicle, so they can consider things like repair costs, rate of injury, and the chances that your car will be stolen. What's the model of your vehicle?
Model of Car

Why do rates vary?
Rates are set to cover the cost of future accidents and claims. To help determine what the future may hold, each company looks at their past experiences as part of the process.What this means is that each company determines their rates differently by looking at each individual's driving experience, infractions (if any), place of residence, the number of people using the vehicle and the kind of vehicle being driven. This, in addition to the related expenses for administering claims, results in the range of rates that you see.
