The end of fall leads us straight into winter's tough driving conditions.
Car accidents occur throughout the year and can always be dangerous, but according to Kanetix.ca more accidents occur during the winter months than any other time of the year.
Of all the car accidents disclosed while getting auto insurance quotes at Kanetix.ca in 2010, almost 30 per cent occurred in the winter months: December, January and February. No doubt, freezing temperatures, ice, and snow make winter driving tricky.
Of all the car accidents:
- 29.4% occurred in December, January or February
- 21.8% happened in March, April or May
- 25.4% took place in June, July or August
- 23.3% happened in September, October or November
Don't let winter give you the driving blues
Keep in mind to:
- Give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going.
- Maintain a safe driving distance between yourself and the vehicle ahead of you.
- Drive at a speed that is appropriate for the weather conditions.
- Accelerate and brake slowly and evenly.
- Learn how to handle a skid. In general, look to where you want your vehicle to go and steer toward that spot.
As the cold, stormy winter weather approaches, stay safe and drive carefully.
