A look at drivers in Canada*
What's up with tickets where you live?
Nineteen per cent of car insurance quotes in 2009 included at least one ticket. By province, the breakdown was:
- Alberta: 21%
- Ontario: 18%
- Quebec: 24%
- New Brunswick: 12%
- Prince Edward Island: 14%
- Nova Scotia: 14%
That's how the quotes looked, but what about the drivers? After all, when a person gets quotes at
Kanetix, their quotes can include one driver or several.
Overall, 16 per cent of drivers had at least one ticket. By province, the breakdown was:
- 19% in Alberta
- 15% in Ontario
- 22% in Quebec
- 10% in New Brunswick
- 11% in PEI
- 12% in Nova Scotia
No matter how you look at it, tickets can affect your auto insurance rates. Guess some drivers have money to burn. Speaking of "burn"...
Burn rubber! Get a ticket
Across the provinces, there were similarities within each province's list of top five tickets disclosed when getting quotes. Without fail, the most common traffic ticket was for speeding. Other infractions, that were common across the country were tickets for:
- Disobeying or ignoring traffic signals or signs, and
- Failing to wear a seatbelt.
You're in the driver's seat
No matter what your driving history, whether you have a clean driving record or have a ticket or two, compare auto insurance rates every year. It's the only way to make sure you are not overpaying for the auto insurance coverage you need.
