It was good to be Chrysler in the month of May, as not only did sales increase for the company stateside, but the U.S-based automaker boosted sales in Canada as well.
According to Chrysler Canada, 24,406 units were sold last month, representing a 17 per cent increase compared to May 2010.
Reid Bigland, president and CEO of Chrysler Canada, said 2011 has been the company's year.
"It is one of those unique times when everything is going right," said Bigland. "We remain the fastest growing automaker in Canada for the second year in a row. In fact, we are also now the second highest seller of vehicles in Canada, thanks to a great month of May."
The automaker's Jeep Wrangler performed particularly well last month, as the number of units moved nearly quadrupled in year-over-year sales figures.
It was a sub-par month for some foreign automakers, however, sales of Toyota vehicles fell off sharply. Toyota Canada reported sales dropped nearly 33 per cent when compared to May 2010. However, auto insurance companies are seeing increasing numbers of some Toyota models on the roads. The automaker said sales for the Highlander and its hybrid version increased 45 and 104 per cent, respectively.
