Going away this long weekend? Best U.S. travel destinations for singles revealed

If Canadian singles were considering getting away for a week or weekend this summer, an online dating website has pinpointed the best cities to visit in the U.S.

"The best travel deals usually occur in the summer," said Kim Hughes, singles and dating expert for Lavalife.com. "Pick an off-season destination ... grab your best guy and/or girlfriends and get going."

Lavalife.com recommends five places, in particular, for Canadians to frequent - Las Vegas, New Orleans, Miami Beach, Palm Springs and Austin. The dating service says all of these locations have great venues for nightlife and the restaurant offerings are many.

To be considered in Lavalife.com's top U.S. cities for single Canadians, the destinations had to have features that traditionally appeal to singles, such as a town on the beach, multiple outlet malls and 24-hour nightclubs.

Canadian singles may also want to purchase a travel insurance policy before embarking on their trip. The department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade recommends that all Canadians, when leaving the country, obtain supplemental travel health insurance as “out-of-country health care can be costly, and your health plan may not cover any medical expenses abroad.”
