Due to the impact of Hurricane Irene, thousands of Canadian travellers had their flights to the U.S. cancelled last weekend. With the end of hurricane season still several months away, CAA North and East Ontario is urging individuals to stay in touch with their travel agents, as the delays may continue.
"The safety of travellers is always at the forefront for CAA and East Ontario and our travel partners," said Christina Hlusko, vice president of travel services and operations for CAANEO. "Our travel agents are readily available to assist those travelling to potentially affected areas during the hurricane season with any questions they may have about their planned journey."
With states incurring billions of dollars in damages, CAANEO warns Canadians that they may encounter problems when they arrive at their destination. As a result, the organization recommends travellers monitor local news reports that can help them avoid areas that are closed off to traffic or tourism.
If Canadians have purchased travel insurance, they may want to review their policy before leaving so that they are aware of what is and is not covered, as plans vary.
