Survey reveals Canadians are frustrated by rewards points policy

Posted: June 01, 2011

According to a survey conducted by the Royal Bank of Canada, 57 per cent of Canadians redeem their reward points by using them to book another flight. However, the survey found that this process has proven to be a frustrating one for many.

For instance, the poll found that of the 57 per cent that used their points for more travel, 81 per cent said they were bothered by the fact that they had to book a flight months ahead of time for the points to be considered redeemable. Many said they wound up using the points on a date that they hadn't originally intended because the process was so difficult.

"Canadians are looking for flexibility and choice when it comes to travel," said Anna Judek, senior manager of Card Products for RBC. "It should be no different when booking with rewards points."

Planning a trip entails a number of different concerns. Regardless of where or when families choose to go on vacation, travel insurance can be a valuable part of the process.
