Whitby car insurance information
Whitby has an approximate population of 116,000 people and it is located on the North Shore of Lake Ontario and just east of Toronto. The motto of the town is "The Heart of the Region".
Settlement of the region began around 1800 and the area sprouted a downtown in 1836 through the efforts of Peter Perry who was Whitby's founder. One of the most significant buildings of the town is Trafalgar Castle School. It was founded in 1874 as a private girls school however it was first a private residence for the Sheriff of Ontario County and it was completed in 1862.
Sir William Stevenson, aka "The Man Called Intrepid", established a secret spy training facility in Whitby, during WWII called Camp X. The buildings have been demolished but the site is marked by a monument.
Today, Whitby's residents commute in large numbers, to jobs in Toronto and to General Motors Canada in Oshawa. Other employers of the town include: McGraw-Hill Ryerson, Automodular Assemblies, Lear Corporation, Johnson Controls, Patheon, BMW, a large LCBO warehouse, a Sobeys retail support centre, and a steel mill operated by Gerdau Ameristeel.
The largest minor sports centre in North America is located in Whitby - the Iroquois Sports Complex. The complex houses the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame, a soccer pitch, a skate park, five baseball diamonds, tennis courts, an Olympic sized swimming pool and six ice pads.
Whitby as a city has a smaller population than many other Canadian cities and as such there are relatively fewer cars and fewer accidents than one would find in more populated areas. This may mean that Whitby residents might pay relatively less for their car insurance than people might pay when living in more populated centres. Here at Kanetix, we can offer you a quick and easy way to get free, personalized auto insurance quotes from the top insurance companies in Canada. Stop paying too much for your insurance. Enter your postal code and find the best Ontario auto insurance premiums.
